I saw an Art Deco statuette in an antique store. On a wooden base, black lacquer and gold had been painted, to depict a young swimmer in a simple black swimsuit, with metallic gold binding.
To make mine as thin, I had to put aside my usual practice of giving my swimsuits shape-control lining. This piece is made from just two pieces of heavy, 225gsm, Italian Lycra.
Ordinarily, not lining a swimsuit, would expose your skin to rough, overlocked, side and crotch seams, except with this swimsuit, those are made using French seams.
In the Art Deco period, it was illegal to wear swimsuits that did not include skirts, unless for sporting or artistic performances. That women are now free to wear this, is the fulfilment of an historical, libertine dream.
Each piece will be individually cut and sewn to customer order.
